This larva, known as the woolly bear, was found on the ground near, Fleetwood, Pa. on October 22, 2012. The larva (caterpillar) will eat many different herbaceous and woody plants. This caterpillar will overwinter in a protected place and will pupate in the spring and emerge as an adult moth soon afterward. The bristles are stiff which differentiates it from the yellow bear. Woolly bears are common. The adult shown was captured July 31, 1969 in the same area.
