     The following butterfly species (those in bold) have been seen in Berks County, Pennsylvania in 2006. The listed date is the first date seen in 2006. There have been records of 106 species seen in Berks County. The list below includes all those reported in 2003, 2004, and 2005, a total of 77 species. Any additional species seen in 2006 will be shown in red. 
     No doubt other species will be present, but not seen. Some of the 106 species are historical records and many are of strays or southern migrants which are not often found in the county. Ninety one of the one hundred six species are known to have been seen in the past 40 years. No new species were added in 2005.      A Banded Purple (Red-spotted Purple with white band which resembles White Admiral) was seen this year. This is a rare sighting. Pennsylvania is in the blend zone of these two subspecies.
